Cliff Bungalow-Mission Jazz Concert Series

The Cliff Bungalow-Mission Jazz concert series is a monthly series featuring some of Calgary's best jazz musicians and ensembles. This jazz series has been created in particular to enable Calgary jazz musicians to present original works and arrangements. For our Calgary audiences it provides an opportunity to hear such works while spending a relaxing evening in the community. The concerts are conducted in the quiet listening and family friendly environment of the Cliff Bungalow-Mission community hall and take place on the first wednesday of every month. Doors open at 7:30 pm and each 2 hour performance starts at 8 pm so everybody can get a good night sleep and be rested the next morning. We serve coffee and tea. There is a $15 cover fee for each event ($10 for students, seniors (65+), and CBM community association members). We do not take reservations. Tickets are sold at the door (cash only). For the 2012/2013 season we have added two additional concerts. Both of these performances are on a saturday night (October 20 and March 23). The Cliff Bungalow - Mission Community Centre is located at: 2201 Cliff Street S.W. two blocks west of 4th Street S.W. at 22nd Avenue S.W. Street parking is available. Public Transit users get there with the no 3 bus. Get off at 4th Street S.W. & 22nd Avenue.

Rick Climans quartet

For the last performance of the 2012-2013 season we are joined by saxophonist Rick Climans and his quartet. This band has been actively performing their brand of 'cool jazz with an edge' across Alberta over the past ten years at a multitude of jazz clubs, festivals, galleries, hotels and corporate events! They've had the pleasure of many guest artists sitting in with them on various occasions adding to the overall spontaneity and creative mix.

The group has performed at such diverse locations and events as the Banff World
Media Festival, Calgary International Film Festival, Beat Niq Jazz & Social Club,
Calgary Jazz Carnivale, Marda Gras Festival, Sylvan Lake Jazz Festival, Fairmont Banff Springs, Palliser Hotel, Carlson's in High River, Lilac Festival, River Cafe, the Ranche Restaurant, Teatro, Chateau Lake Louise, and a host of other venues and occasions.

The group takes jazz standards and performs them in their own unique way, along with some of their own originals. Their sound has a definite blues and latin flavour with some R&B thrown in for good measure!
